Welcome To Xavi Oregón's Culinary Institute

My name is Xavier Oregón, and this blog is my kitchen on the internet! As a classically trained cook, I have amassed quite a lot of knowledge that I’d like to share with you.

While I will share food recipes, that’s not what this blog will mainly focus on.

I want to teach you how to think about cooking in a more modular manner to see ingredients as a part of a puzzle or play around with them like a child would with LEGOs.

The name “Culinary Institute” might sound scary, but I promise to keep things simple and understandable even for those taking their first steps in the kitchen.

What Is This All About?

Xavier Oregon Chef I’m really good at some things and rather mediocre at others. Thus I’ll stick to where I can add most value to you as a reader and let others keep you entertained in areas where I’m weak. English is also my second language, so apologies in advance. Here’s an overview of DO’s and DON’Ts that the Oregón’s Culinary Institute will be all about:

  • ✅ Detailed introductions to essentials of cooking, baking, frying etc.
  • ✅ Recommendations for tools like knives, pots, pans and other kitchenware.
  • ✅ Simplifying cooking techniques and explaining them to a beginner friendly manner.
  • ✅ Teaching you essential knife skills such as how to cut onions etc.
  • Posting recipes apart from the occasional, very unique ones I’ve developed in-house.
  • Covering any kind of cooking news or related aspects.

Four Core Pillars Of This Website

Lets dive a bit deeper into the core pillars that I intend to build on this blog. It’s a work in progress and all content is produced by me personally so your patience is appreciated. 😊

Techniques and Basic Skills

I will show you everything, starting with essential kitchen skills like chopping an onion to in-depth information about searing, deep-frying, and pressure cooking food.

Articles and videos for this will typically be posted in a format of short blog posts so make sure you follow that section.

Best Tools & Appliances

As someone who cooks every day, often for 8-12 hours, I can tell you that kitchen tools are underrated. They can make your life a lot easier.

From state-of-the-art appliances like sous-vide machines to something as essential as a potato peeler – I will introduce you to and teach you all about these.

Recipes

This won’t be my focus area, as there are thousands of amazing websites out there that you can find recipes on.

I will share some that I have developed myself, but if you’re looking for a recipe blog, this probably won’t be the #1 choice.

Food Science & Flavours

It took me years to understand how flavors in food work and interacted with each other.

I’m still learning fascinating things and discovering new ingredients every week.

I’ll try to simplify this for you so that instead of years, you can learn what I know in months.
